March 2026 Tax Calendar: Key Individual Deadlines

We are officially entering the home stretch. With February in the rearview, the April filing deadline is looming large on the horizon. While April gets all the attention, March 2026 holds a few critical dates that individual taxpayers—especially those in the service industry—need to watch closely.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

If you work in hospitality or any role where tipping is standard, this deadline is for you. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10.

You can use IRS Form 4070 or a signed statement listing your name, address, SSN, employer’s details, the period covered, and the total tips received. Why is this urgent? Your employer needs this data to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes from your regular paycheck. If you skip this, or if your wages aren't high enough to cover the withholding, that uncollected amount will show up in Box 8 of your W-2, leading to a potentially surprising tax bill when you file.

March 16: The One-Month Warning

Consider this your friendly nudge: We are exactly one month away from the April individual filing deadline. If you haven't secured a slot on our calendar yet, please reach out immediately. Appointments are filling up rapidly as we approach the deadline.

Don't let missing documents stall you. A common mistake clients make is waiting until they have every single receipt before calling us. Please don't do that. We can start your return with what you have and create a "homework list" for the missing pieces. It is much better to get the process moving now than to scramble in April.

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we should connect now. An extension to file is not an extension to pay; we still need to prepare a preliminary return to estimate your liability and minimize interest or penalties.

Standard Rules & Disaster Relief

As always, if a due date hits a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day. Additionally, if you are in a federally declared disaster area, you may have extra time. Check the current status of your area here:
